Reopening of St James’ Church Building

November 10, 2020 by 2

St James’ Church building will reopen for services of worship from Sunday 15 November 2020.

The services will resume at their usual time of 10:00am.

They will be restricted in many ways – e.g. no singing; some parts of the building still closed; attendance capacity between only 19 and 32 persons, depending on how many couples and single people attend; and you must book ahead of time if you want to attend – you cannot just turn up on spec.

However, as we hope you will agree, this does feel like a step in the right direction!

A booking system is in place.

Further details have already been circulated by physical letter to members and adherents of the Church.

If you would like more information about attending one of the forthcoming services, please feel free to contact us via this website.

Finding hope in a world which appears to offer no future

October 31, 2020 by 2

1st November is All Saints’ Day and it falls on a Sunday in 2020.

As Rev. Geoff McKee says in today’s sermon: “This is a day of hope in the midst of a relentless pandemic.”

The Lectionary readings for All Saints’ Day are Revelation 7:9-17 and Psalm 34:1-10, 22; and 1 John 3:1-3 and Matthew 5:1-12.

The main text is from Revelation, the final Book of the Bible. Again, according to Geoff: “There is no more challenging book in the Bible than the book of Revelation.”

Geoff explains how the structure of Revelation must be understood before we can extract its full meaning. And how the particular section of the Book – about The Great Multitude in White Robes – can help us to find hope even in a world which may sometimes appear to us to have no future.

This post contains the usual materials: Lectionary readings; prayers; audio sermon; and a musical selection from Kath.
