Why Passivity and Defeatism are not Christian Options on Climate Change

October 3, 2021 by 2

COP26 is fast-approaching.

Glasgow will host the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference from 31 October to 12 November 2021.

On Sunday 24 October we will focus our attention in worship on climate change and seek to understand how we should respond to it as Christians.

03 October 2021 is the Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost and the main Lectionary reading this week is Psalm 8. This provides a chance to take an initial look at the important issue of the relationship between God and humanity with respect to stewardship of creation.

Below, you will find the text of Psalm 8, the Order of Service, and the Video of the Service led by Rev. Geoff McKee.

For a previous, alternative take on Psalm 8 see this sermon (PDF available at link).

Main Scripture Reading this week

Psalm 8 (NIV)

1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honour.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Why our response to strangers says so much about us

September 26, 2021 by 2

26 September 2021 is the 18th Sunday after Pentecost and the main reading this week comes from Mark’s Gospel – Mark 9:38-50.

The version set out below is taken from The Message, rather than the usual ‘New International Version’ (of the Bible), for a bit of variety. The version read in the service (video link to recording, below) is from the NIV version, as usual.

Should you wish to download the sermon as a PDF, a version is available at the link here.

Below, you will find the main scripture for this week, the Order of Service, the Video of the Service led by Rev. Geoff McKee, and a Musical Selection by Katherine Robertson, with an interesting local, Moray connection.

Rev. Geoff McKee retires

October 5, 2025 By 2

Geoff McKee is retiring as Minister of Lossiemouth Church of Scotland.

His last day of ministry is 31 October 2025.

He conducted worship for the last time (as its minister) at Lossiemouth Church of Scotland on Sunday 28 September 2025.

There was a “thank you” concert held for Geoff and his wife, Annie, in the Church on Saturday 27 September 2025 at 2pm.

We wish Geoff and Annie a long, happy and healthy retirement. We will miss them terribly but we are grateful for the time we have had together and for their ministry and faithful service in Lossiemouth. Your retirement is well-earned!
