Children’s Holiday Club in Lossiemouth – 15-19 July 2019

April 27, 2019 by 2

IMPORTANT NOTE (13 July 2019):

We are now close to capacity for the Club. Only a few places remain. If you are still hoping to attend the Club, please could you email Peter at the btinternet address on the flyer image further down this page to check availability (or send a message via this website). We don’t want people turning up on the day and being disappointed at not getting a place.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE CLUB:

We are excited to be running a children’s holiday club in conjunction with the wonderful Out of the Box.

Out of the Box (Scotland) Ltd (OOTB) is a charity set up in 2004 to provide Christian outreach using puppetry, song and other forms of performing arts.

Chris Watt, Children’s Worker with OOTB, will lead the club, which will be held in the Hall at St James’ Church from 10am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday (15 – 19 July 2019).

The club is open to Primary school children.

At the lower age level, this means children who, by July 2019, have completed Primary 1 (it does not include children who will be starting P1 in August 2019).

The title of the club is “Navigate”.

The material was written by Chris and his colleagues at OOTB.

It has an outdoor adventure theme and includes videos shot in the Cairngorms, giving everything a “local” feel. As you would expect, there will be plenty of opportunity for craft-making, action songs, Bible stories, puppets, challenges and loads of fun (plus juice and snacks).

Information has been distributed to local primary schools.

Margaret Burns and Rev. Geoff McKee have given talks to children at Hythehill and St Gerardine’s Primary Schools in the week beginning 10 June 2019 and children have received postcard flyers about the Club and registration forms. These should be returned by 24 June 2019 but “late” returns are still acceptable.

The club is open to any child (within the age range mentioned above) and free to attend.

However, places may have to be limited.  The room we use for the Club has a capacity of 80 and there will be up to 20 adult helpers. (From our previous experience with Holiday Clubs, we do not expect to be oversubscribed but you never know).

If there are still places available after 24 June (and we confirm that there are still places!), registration will remain open until all places are taken.

If you have any questions at this point about the Children’s Holiday Club in Lossiemouth, feel free to contact us via this website.

You can download a PDF consent/registration form by clicking here – or a Word version of the form by clicking here. Forms can be submitted to Peter Brash via the btinternet email address at the foot of the flyer image, below.

December 19, 2018 by 2

We look forward to welcoming you to the 2 main joint services over Christmas within the linkage of St Gerardine’s High Church and St James’ Church. Our minister, Rev. Geoff McKee, will be leading the worship on both these occasions.

Christmas Services

Christmas Eve Watchnight Service at St James at 11:15pm

Mulled wine and shortbread will be served in the Fellowship Hall from 10.30pm. Please come along early to enjoy some social time together.

Christmas Day Service at St Gerardine’s High Church at 10:00am

This is the annual combined Christmas Day service shared among St James’, St Gerardine’s and the United Free Church. Everyone welcome.

Other services

The service on Sunday 23 December 2018 at 10:00am is in St James’ (link to location map).

It is a service of Nine Lessons and Carols. Come and hear the Christmas story with readings from the Old Testament (Genesis and Isaiah) and the New Testament (from the Gospels of Luke, Matthew and John). We’ll also light 4 of our Advent candles during the service (this being the 4th Sunday of Advent).

It’s also a chance to sing some favourite Christmas Carols.

After the service, we’ll have tea and coffee in the Fellowship Hall, to which everyone is welcome.

We hope you will be able to join with us.

The service on Sunday 30th December at St James’ is at 10:00am when the service will be taken by St James’ Kirk Session.

We hope to see you at one or more of these services.

We wish you health and happiness this Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

John 3:16 (New International Version)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Mouth of the River Lossie from the East Beach - Detail

Sale of St Gerardine’s Church Buildings delayed by artefacts

February 1, 2026 By 2

By way of an update regarding the sale of the former St. Gerardine’s High Church buildings, the property is “under offer”.

In the (pre-new East Beach Bridge) photograph below, St. Gerardine’s is the building with the spire, more or less in the middle of the picture. The former St. James’ Church (which remains open, as part of Laich of Moray Parich Church – see further below) is the building with the very pointy spire, towards the right hand side of the photo.

Mouth of the River Lossie, Lossiemouth

There are three historic artefacts which remain in the church which will have to be removed before the sale can finally proceed. These are: the Kinneddar Pillar, Drainie Memorial and Stotfield Disaster Memorial Plaque.

The Kirk Session of Laich of Moray Parish Church (formerly, until 31 January 2026, Lossiemouth Parish Church) are doing their best to relocate these items.

The Kirk Session have probably been able to find a new home for the Disaster Memorial Plaque but are still seeking a suitable place or places for the other two artefacts.

We have several local organisations and people assisting in this search, for whose help we are very grateful.

We will provide a further update whenever possible. Recent photos of the 3 historic artefacts are set out below.
