It is the Sixth Sunday of Easter – 09 May 2021 – and our reading from the New Testament Book of Acts this week is from Chapter 10, verses 44-48.
This passage – and the background to it – demonstrates how generous hospitality and the graces it cultivates create the potential to change lives.
Below, you will find the main scripture for this week, the Video recording of the service from St James’ Church, Lossiemouth (conducted by our minister, Rev. Geoff McKee), recorded on 09 May 2021 and a Musical Selection.
Main scripture for this week.
Acts 10:44-48 (New International Version)
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptised with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
Video service from St James’ – 09 May 2021
There is a proverb in Swahili from east Africa; “Treat your guest as a guest for two days; on the third day, give him a hoe.” The welcome remains but the relationship is changed in a positive way, as the recipient is able to respond with appreciation by giving of himself.
