A Christmas Recipe

December 18, 2015 by 2

Rev. Graham Crawford’s sermon for Sunday 13 December 2015:

The TV is full of it at the moment.

On the cooking channels and even on some of the more mainstream channels: Nigella’s Christmas Recipes, Jamie Oliver, Heston Blumenthal, River Cottage …

All the celebrity chefs are at it.

Just “do this” and you will have a stress-free Christmas that will be the tastiest ever.

Some of the recipes are simply fabulous, others downright weird, while yet others require ingredients that are just not that easy to find outside of multicultural cities.

But, while these shows and the recipes on them may be good, none of them guarantee you joy at Christmas. None of them guarantee you the real spirit of Christmas.

For that, I think, we need to turn to a minor Old Testament Prophet and a prolific letter writer. For they have the secret to joy at Christmas. And it is not in the way you baste your turkey or in what is lying under the Christmas tree. It is something much cheaper and much simpler. [Read more…]

Deferred Linkage Becomes A Reality

December 11, 2015 by 2

On Sunday 29 November 2015, Rev. Graham Crawford announced at the morning service that, on the following Sunday, he would be preaching as sole nominee for the vacant charge at a church in Perth (Scotland) and that, as a result, he and his family would be leaving St James’ and Lossiemouth with effect from February 2016.

We now know that Graham was voted in unanimously as the new Minister at Kinnoull Parish Church, Perth, on 06 December 2015.

We congratulate Graham on his success and commend his new congregation on their excellent choice of Minister.  We have been lucky to have Graham here with us for 12 years and we wish him, Jane, Thomas (not forgetting Jamie too!) all the best in their new home, church and surroundings. [Read more…]

Mouth of the River Lossie from the East Beach - Detail

Sale of St Gerardine’s Church Buildings delayed by artefacts

February 1, 2026 By 2

By way of an update regarding the sale of the former St. Gerardine’s High Church buildings, the property is “under offer”.

In the (pre-new East Beach Bridge) photograph below, St. Gerardine’s is the building with the spire, more or less in the middle of the picture. The former St. James’ Church (which remains open, as part of Laich of Moray Parich Church – see further below) is the building with the very pointy spire, towards the right hand side of the photo.

There are three historic artefacts which remain in the church which will have to be removed before the sale can finally proceed. These are: the Kinneddar Pillar, Drainie Memorial and Stotfield Disaster Memorial Plaque.

The Kirk Session of Laich of Moray Parish Church (formerly, until 31 January 2026, Lossiemouth Parish Church) are doing their best to relocate these items.

The Kirk Session have probably been able to find a new home for the Disaster Memorial Plaque but are still seeking a suitable place or places for the other two artefacts.

We have several local organisations and people assisting in this search, for whose help we are very grateful.

We will provide a further update whenever possible. Recent photos of the 3 historic artefacts are set out below.
