Here is the official notice of the changes – due to the linkage of the 2 churches – first announced to the congregations on Sunday 07 February 2016:

The Kirk Sessions of St Gerardine’s High Church of Scotland, Lossiemouth, and St James’ Church of Scotland, Lossiemouth, meeting concurrently on 04 February 2016, have agreed that a service of worship will take place in St James’ Church of Scotland, Lossiemouth, every Sunday at 10:00 am and at St Gerardine’s High Church, Lossiemouth, every Sunday at 11:30 am, with effect from Sunday 28 February 2016.

This arrangement may be suspended for special occasions, with the approval of both Kirk Sessions.

Farewell, Graham, and Haste Ye Back

February 7, 2016 by 2

Jean Symon, Session Clerk at St James’ Church, gave the following speech at Rev. Graham Crawford’s Farewell Party in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday 06 February 2016, prior to handing over gifts from the congregation to Graham and Jane (ad libs in italics):

There are good stories about fishing……

Fourteen years ago or so, we went in search of a minister to lead this faithful congregation.

The search was quite long, and proved to be quite difficult. There were those who really wanted to join us here in Lossiemouth, and they were very keen; it’s just that we hadn’t yet found the right minister.

So, although, we travelled to picturesque spots in the south of Scotland, meeting people, we were back to the drawing board.

So we felt we had to fish in deeper, more remote, waters. [Read more…]

The Bible In 4 Sentences

January 31, 2016 by 2

It can be difficult for children (and adults) to get orientated within the Bible with particular scriptural readings.

These 4 sentences (2 covering the Old Testament and 2 covering the New Testament), courtesy of Scripture Union’s “Light” X-Stream lesson for 24 January 2016, can be helpful if you are starting a lesson or reading and want to get everyone clearly focused in their mind as to which part of the Bible you are learning about.

  1. God made the world and wanted people to choose to love him.
  2. God sent messages through kings and prophets, but people often chose not to love him.
  3. God sent Jesus to die and come back to life so that people could choose to love him.
  4. God sent the Holy Spirit who gave God’s people power to tell others that they could choose to love God.

These four sentences, in the order given, are a summary of the whole Bible.

Another similarly helpful tool is the Bible Timeline produced by Scripture Union.

Sunday School Seeks New Members

January 31, 2016 by 2

Graham (Crawford, our Minister) was telling us  a funny poem about an oak tree:

Do not worry if your job is small
With rewards you can’t see.
Just remember that the mighty oak
Was once a nut, like me.

He then talked to us about the Sequoia tree, which is a mighty tree that grows from a tiny seed.  It takes 3000 Sequoia seeds to make up one ounce (however much that is!).

He said that a fully grown Sequoia would be as wide as Prospect Terrace (the road outside St James’ Church). In the US, roads go through Sequoia trees. [Read more…]

Rev. Geoff McKee retires

October 5, 2025 By 2

Geoff McKee is retiring as Minister of Lossiemouth Church of Scotland.

His last day of ministry is 31 October 2025.

He conducted worship for the last time (as its minister) at Lossiemouth Church of Scotland on Sunday 28 September 2025.

There was a “thank you” concert held for Geoff and his wife, Annie, in the Church on Saturday 27 September 2025 at 2pm.

We wish Geoff and Annie a long, happy and healthy retirement. We will miss them terribly but we are grateful for the time we have had together and for their ministry and faithful service in Lossiemouth. Your retirement is well-earned!
