How Mark’s writing style helps to focus the Gospel message

January 8, 2021 by 2

Sunday 10 January 2021 is the First Sunday after Epiphany.

This is a virtual service and, for the first time, the sermon, readings and prayers are all presented in video format, by Rev. Geoff McKee, below.

The Lectionary readings are: Genesis 1:1-5; Psalm 29; Acts 19:1-7; and Mark 1:4-13.

The passage from Mark forms the basis for Geoff’s sermon and it is set out immediately below, with the (video) prayers/readings/sermon below that and, finally, Katherine Robertson’s musical selection.

A cautionary tale to ensure we are open to God and his purposes

January 2, 2021 by 2

A very Happy New Year to you all!

The first Sunday of the New Year – 03 January 2021 – is the Epiphany of the Lord: the Magi’s visit to Jesus, the Messiah.

The Lectionary readings are: Isaiah 60:1-6; Psalm 72:1-7, 10-14; Ephesians 3:1-12; and Matthew 2:1-12. The main reading is from Matthew.

“Can we trust the science?” is an ever-relevant question. The Magi were the scientists of their age. In seeking out the Messiah, they trusted in their scientific observations and interpretations. By comparing and contrasting their apporach with that of King Herod, we reveal a cautionary tale which reminds us always to ensure that we are open to God and his purposes for us.

Below, you will find the prayers, readings, audio sermon and a musical selection.

The great furnace of real happiness (Christmas Eve Service 2020)

December 24, 2020 by 2

Arise, shine, for your light has come; and over you the glory of the Lord has dawned. Isaiah 60:1

Welcome to this virtual service for Christmas Eve…

Rev. Geoff McKee’s audio sermon is based on Titus 2:11-14, which is set out for you below. Geoff discusses Charles Dickens’ famous story, A Christmas Carol, and how the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge that it describes – to a kind, generous and compassionate man – embodies the true spirit of Christmas. As G.K. Chesterton described it: “The great furnace of real happiness”.
